For the National Trust, Sophie has worked on many projects. What’s more, her wealth of experience has resulted in her being given the role of working in various houses on open days, explaining to visitors about the work undertaken. Sophie enjoys talking about her work immensely, and feels especially proud that she’s been able to educate others on the ethical nature of caring for art and the different methods available.

Sophie was delighted to be part of a series for the BBC, Petworth House – The Big Spring Clean. Presented by  Andrew Graham Dixon, Sophie featured in the episode Art in the Big Freeze, where she was treating a Gainsborough painting in front of the camera and explaining to the viewer what she was doing.

Sophie has restored paintings for the V&A, She has worked in the Paintings Conservation Department in the museum; e.g. being in charge of the loans program for a while. She’s also had paintings delivered to her studio, where she restored them over a longer period of time. She worked collaboratively with another conservator on the project, which they then presented with the responsible curator from the V&A in a , now published, lecture at the Art Worker’s Guild.

Sophie is now regularly called upon to share her knowledge and experience at conferences. She delights in sharing useful, innovative techniques with others.

In the past Sophie worked as a Freelance Paintings Conservator at Sophia Plender’s private studio, London.

She also worked as a Paintings Conservator for Simon Folkes’ private studio, London for several years.

As a Student Conservator, Sophie undertook work at the Paintings Conservation Studio of the Walraff-Richartz-Museum in Köln, Germany.

Also when studying she worked at Fundacion Tarea (Institute for Conservation of Paintings and Sculptures) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Sophie completed various internships before she studied. One took place at the Paintings Conservation Department of the Bavarian Institute for Conservation of Artistic and Historical Monuments ( Bayerisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege) in München, Germany. Also as an intern, she worked at the Paintings Conservation Department of the Institute for Conservation in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her first internship was at a private practice for a year.
